Hi, I’m Trish Holder – creator of Greenspiration Home, a homeowner-to-homeowner resource for green building and renovation.
I’m like most of you, pulled in a million different directions that make doing the right thing by my husband, two kids, home, work, community, and planet pretty darn difficult. Oh let’s be honest – it’s impossible.
But we try, don’t we? And very often the thought occurs to us, “If I only knew then what I know now, I’d have done a lot better.”
That’s precisely why I am so passionate about helping homeowners through the process of building and renovating their homes.
Why I Can’t Shut-up About Building Green
My husband and I completed the building of our first custom-built, uber green home in January 2009. It was an exciting and rewarding process, but it was also fraught with many challenges, disappointments, and (yes) a few failures. If only I knew then what I know now, we’d have spent less and avoided a lot of stress and drama. That includes what I learned about the residential construction industry as a whole—an industry that is overrun with opportunities for costly error, particularly when it comes to the application of new energy efficient and/or sustainable technologies.
So I started thinking. If only more people knew what I (and others) now know about building a green home, then their experiences could be better and maybe the industry would improve as well. Hence began Greenspiration Home.
Other Stuff You “Might” Want to Know About Me
When I’m not pulling together what I intend to become the best homeowner’s resource on the web, I am a writer and marketing consultant for the Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and construction industries. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last 14+ years. I love self-employment and I love (though sometimes hate) digging into very technical issues so that I can write intelligently about them. It gives me an intoxicatingly inflated sense of self-worth.
I especially love nothing better than speaking about my home and sharing what I’ve learned, whether it’s giving a tour to a local garden club or speaking at a green building event. I’m part nerd, part ham. I won’t lie – I dig the attention.
I am blessed with a wonderful husband and two very smart, beautiful, athletic kids who make me both crazy and proud, and sometimes crazy proud.
I play a lot of competitive tennis – a sport I picked up way too late to ever be as great as I’m sure I could have been. As it is, I’m a pretty decent player for my age, which I’m not about to divulge here.
Finally, I am a native North Carolinian and expect to die one. I love this place – even with all its stubborn people and stubborn red clay. It is a beautiful state with a mystifying concentration of gifted writers, musicians, artists, and craftsmen. I think it has something to do with the clay.
